Hamburger Buns

Of course, you can use purchased buns, but these Butter Buns are simple - I keep them on hand through the summer.  If you want hot dog buns, just shape them the long way.
Simple Sandwich Buns
4 tablespoons butter -- (or oil)
16 Ounces Bread Flour -- 3 1/4 cups
2 1/8 teaspoons INSTANT yeast -- 1 package
1 teaspoon sugar
1 Teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/2 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Water -- warm (110-115°)
Set aside 1 cup of bread flour.  Combine remaining dry ingredients in mixer bowl. Warm water, milk and butter to 120°-125°. With mixer running slowly, gradually pour in liquids. Add egg to mixture.  Mix with paddle attachment 2 minutes on speed 2. Add enough remaining flour until dough cleans the sides of the bowl.  Change to dough hook, and knead at speed 2 for 6 minutes. Cover and let rise 10 minutes in warm place. Prepare a half sheet pan with parchment paper or greasing.  Shape dough into 10 hamburger buns, about 2 1/2 oz each, let rise 30 minutes or until doubled, covered lightly with wax paper sprayed with cooking spray or, if you have it, a lid for your pan. Preheat oven to 375°. Bake until golden brown, about 20-22 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool on wire rack. Butter tops if desired.

  2. This looks great! I couldn't find one hamburger roll without high fructose corn syrup at my grocery store. even the $4 natural ones had it! Thanks for all your great recipes.

    1. The high fructose corn syrup is one of the reasons we bake our own...and these are so easy and good. I always try to have some kind of buns in the freezer for quick meals.
