Sunday in Iowa

Easter Sunday meant new clothes and shoes for Church. So nice if you and Mom had matching outfits. I remember when we always got a new bonnet, gloves and shoes for Easter Sunday, and Moms always wore dresses and hats to church.
Have a blessed Easter and don't eat too many chocolate bunnies.

  1. Mom and I never had matching dresses but I remember each year being taken to the local "five and dime" store where they would have a large table of Easter bonnets laid out and I got to choose my new Easter hat. I think the last time I wore an "Easter bonnet" was when I was a senior in high school (early 1960s). It was a straw hat with upturned brim and a wide brown ribbon around the crown that matched my brown suit. Those were lovelier days when it came to women's attire, don't you think? Happy Easter to you and yours!

  2. Yes, there was lovelier women's attire than, I think the last hat I wore was a red feathers that I wore in the early 60"s also.
Did you have white gloves to wear to church also?

    1. Yes, gloves with the Easter outfits. We also always wore gloves with our prom dresses in high school. Now the only time you see women wearing gloves is in the winter time! And we don't wear hats except in the winter time either. The exception might be in England where hats still seem to be part of their outfits. Wonder why we stopped wearing hats . . . except in winter time?

  3. Our Grandma always had great hats. She bought them from a Milliner who made them in her small shop.
The type the Queen of England wears. We got to try on hats when we went with her as younger children, so much fun.

  4. How well I remember the spring coats & hats with the long ribbons! And the patent leather shoes! We never had matching dresses, hats or coats exactly, but my sister & I sometimes had the same style in different colors. Those were the days! A simpler life & more family gathered to celebrate. Thanks for taking us down memory lane!
