An old gas station, maintained by the homeowners next door, half way between Oskaloosa and Pella, Iowa, built in 1930.
The building survived changing Highway 163 from 2 to 4 lanes a few years ago.

I am overjoyed when I see an old gas station that has survived. They bring back childhood memories. My dad actually worked at one for awhile. Some of them are really neat buildings! Thanks for sharing this one!

ReplyDeleteMy dad ran a Cities Service station back in the 50's. It had small cabins in the back they used to rent out by the night for travelers.
ReplyDeleteIt was still there when I was a young man, bought gas there. I always wanted to buy the property and run the station, but the new tank laws caused it to be tore down. Today it is empty property with nothing but a billboard sign there. Sad. Still have some pictures of my mother in a convertable infront of the station.
I remember going to California with my folks and staying in cabins like those. Lots of fun and a cheap way to travel. Miss seeing them.
