When we took a ride along Highway 92 in Southeastern Iowa,
we saw these horses in the pasture. The horses looked up and posed for the camera after they heard my husband’s voice.
Later we saw this place that looks like a
movie ranch house setting that got us thinking about Saturday afternoon
matinees with Roy and Gene…and Hopalong.
Remember the Cowboy Code? Trigger? Melody Ranch?
Getting into the matinee for 14¢ if you were under 12 years old? Then you still had a nickel for a small bag
of popcorn and another nickel for a little yellow box of Milk Duds and still
had a penny left for pink bubblegum?
Of course I don't remember any of those things because I'm French but any post that contains the words "we took a ride along Highway..." will make any European person envious !x
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit younger for everything else, but I do remember Dale Evans and Roy Rogers. We were taught to obey our parents, be kind and truthful and love Jesus. I sure do miss the ethics of those days.
ReplyDeleteI only had to pay 10 cents for movie admission, then I spent a nickel for a slo-poke caramel on a stick. It lasted me the entire movie. M
ReplyDeleteWe watched Roy & all the other westerns on Sunday mornings after church! ...in black & white of course! :-) I loved them! I have some DVDs of the old programs. I don't remember how much it cost to go to the movies in our small town. I wasn't quite 8 when we moved away. And, like Midnite Baker, we had slo-pokes (all-day suckers) when we went! :-)
ReplyDeleteI must confess that I was short and slightly built for my age and got into the Saturday afternoon movies at the kids price, ten or 15 cents for a few years after I was to old to get that price. I do remember Slo-pokes but my favorites were Walnettos. Sure wish I could still buy them.
