The End of the Road...

 The End of the Road

My husband will be celebrating his birthday soon.  My gift to him is retiring from blogging today.  We have been married over 50 years, and we want to spend more time together on some other interests we share.
Without Myrna's enthusiasm and sharing the workload of the blog, I haven't been spending as much time on things that my husband and I want to do as a couple.

Myrna and I made many friends and also became closer as sisters over the years we shared our blogging hobby.
The blog will be left in place and maintained for the time being, as well as the Pinterest boards.

Thanks to all of you who made this adventure worth while.

  10. I don't know if it makes sense to say that this blog that you and Myrna put so much time and effort into grounded me, but that's how I feel. You've evoked so many good memories of the way it used to be and have given me encouragement to strive for those same values of home and hearth. You will be greatly missed. Best wishes to you and your husband in the years ahead. I totally understand your decision. Sending hugs to you!

I grew up in Mahaska County and so enjoyed your pictures. Thank you for highlighting my dad's bicycle sign (Whites). He designed and fabricated the sign himself. Good memories.

    1. Hello, my name is Carla Chambers when I was a kid I hung out at your dad's bicycle shop. He taught me me a lot about bicycles and how to change tires and put chains on. That was always a highlight of my day when I was a child. The sign is now at our local coffee shop, Smokey Row.

Your blog is a treasure and an amazing resource and I hope it will be available for a long time. Please, reach out if you are no longer able to archive it and want someone to make space for it. Enjoy your "full" retirement with your husband, and God bless you and Myrna for your years of work. It is very much appreciated.

So, at the end of the blogging journey for you, let me say I have enjoyed your blog, your photos, your recipes so very much. Everything about your blog evokes a "kinder, gentler" time, and I find it comforting, quieting, relaxing compared to so many blogs. I wish the very best and happiest next chapter. Thank you for leaving the blog up.

Loved your blog, loved the recipes, loved you and your sister's dedication & hard work, loved the feeling of days gone by, loved the pictures of Iowa (drove through from Colorado to Illinois and was blown away by the beauty of the state. I hope to visit when I can stop and not just drive past). Enjoy your life and thank you!!!!

I'm not sure how I missed this, probably how I missed the passing of sweet Myrna, just busy on our blog and missed the post. 2nd Man and I will miss your new recipes, several of them are on rotation in our meal planning and as we get the farmhouse redone, we'll be working on some more of them. Thank you for leaving them up and letting us all learn and enjoy from them. All the best to you always. Hugs from Texas.

    5. Glad you're trying my two most often made cake recipes...never any leftovers. Fall canning is about to start here too, although we're in such drought here gardens haven't produced well. Another reason to can more than you think you need, you might not get much the next year.

  53. I just found your blog today (via The Bluebirds Are Nesting) and am so glad you left it up even though you have retired from it. I loved "Taste of Home" magazine before it was sold. It's fun to find a blog that includes so many recipes and ideas that are similar to what they featured. You and your sister created a treasure here and I'm enjoying going through what you have. Thank you!

  58. Hi Sue - just came across your blog today! My mom and I were trying to remember the name of the date company that we used back in the 70's. And low and behold your blog picture popped up and there was the orange box and name Dromedary on the box. So I know you have retired but thank you for sharing your great blog with all of us. Plus, I want you to know that since we have been making dates cookies for Christmas and my great grandmother's Applesauce cake ( which I call our family fruit cake) and have found that the Medjool dates are the sweetest and closest to the Dromedary dates of years past. Thank you again for your blog it's very special to see the old recipes still being used and loved. Merry Christmas as well as a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your husband! From two grateful fans in CT. ❤️
