The Rest of the Dough...Frosted Orange Rolls

This is how I used up the rest of the roll dough. I had tried a recipe for lemon rolls I had found and was not happy with it. Thought orange sounded better so decided to go with that. Made up the filling and glaze as I went so will give you the recipes for them. The roll dough of course was posted earlier. This is really a all purpose dough. Everyone seemed to like the orange rolls, at least there are none left. Really good warm from the oven.
The house smelled so good. Nothing better than the smell of baking bread.
Frosted Orange Rolls
Filling for Orange Rolls
1 cup sugar
grated orange rind 1 tablespoon
3 tablespoons soft butter
Roll dough into a rectangle about 15x12 or until about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick
Spread with the softened butter
Sprinkle with the sugar you have added the orange rind to. (use your fingers to stir rind in until the sugar becomes a light orange color)
Roll up starting with the long side.
Slice into 1/2 inch slices and place in greased pan.
Using two thirds of the dough I had a 9x13 inch pan and a 9 inch round pan full.
Let raise for 1 hour or until double in bulk.
Bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes. If getting too dark lay a piece of foil over them.
Tip pan over on rack and then invert back right side up. Scrape any sugar left in pan and put on rolls.
Let cool on rack while you make the glaze. If too warm the glaze will melt and run all over.

Icing for orange rolls
In mixer cream
2 Tablespoons cream cheese
1 Tablespoon butter
1 cup powdered sugar
Add orange juice till frosting is the thickness you like. Remember it will thin a little more if put on warm rolls.
Eat and enjoy

  1. The Orange Rolls are truly remarkable. Myrna is right…they didn't last long enough, and we are so ready for her to make them again. The problem being that Myrna likes to try different recipes and so getting the exact same thing twice is really unlikely.

  2. I absolutely love the way you did this! Posting on the dough and then ways to use it is very helpful. The orange rolls sound so delicious!

  3. These are perfect - a refreshing change from cinnamon rolls.

Hi...we'd love to hear from you.
