We are starting to get tomatoes, peppers and basil from our little patio-side kitchen garden, as well as chives and parsley. The garden is shown in early June in the upper left hand photo, when we had plenty of lettuce and spinach on the plant stand. The lettuce has been replaced by a box of very pretty "Picasso" petunias with an unusual mauve flower with a green edge mixed with white bacopa, and a box of basil.
Iowa has had 3-4 times as much rain as normal this June, and rivers are or have been out in much of the state.
Our tomatoes have fared better than my neighbor's, which have drowned in the cool, wet garden and although ripening, have big black spots and are very soft. I fear I won't be canning too many, as it's not looking like a good tomato summer for much of the state.
