Do You Remember…?
Those convenient egg beaters in the mixing cup?
Those “ergonomic” tilted-handle egg beaters?
When your mom got one of those first electric mixers?
When our mom got a Hamilton Beach like this one, she was thrilled! She could remove the head and use it like a hand mixer to make 7 minute frosting at the stove, as well as make cakes with ease. The small bowl was for whipped cream and egg whites. The juicer was a popular attachment.

Oh, I have one of them egg beaters in a 4 cup measuring cup and I still actually use it from time to time. I also have one with a whisk instead of an egg beater with a measuring cup. That I don't use, but have it setting on kitchen shelf for a décor item . I do have a red handle “ergonomic” tilted-handle egg beater as well.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I do love them vintage kitchen items
I once had one of those ergonomic tilted-handled egg beaters and couldn't hold on to it for love nor money. Always wondered if the person who designed it actually thought it worked better than the ones with the handles straight across the top! (Do you think it could possibly have been a person of the male sex who never had to use it? Hee-hee.)
ReplyDeleteI've used an "ergonomic" beater and couldn't manage it at all; I think it's natural to want to apply vertical pressure as one beats and the handle on a slant makes that very difficult!

We had a plain crank beater and an electric one. Mom finally got a stand mixer 2 years ago because of her arthritis.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun for us, as kids, to test our mettle with the crank beater and see how quickly we could mix up an envelope of Dream Whip. One of our favorite desserts was home-canned peach halves and a couple spoonsful of canning juice over graham crackers, topped with a generous dollop of Dream Whip. The juice softened up the graham crackers and the Dream Whip was just plain delicious.
Anyone else ever have that for dessert? It didn't "work" with canned pears for some reason--those were always eaten plain.
I have one of those, but it is in my curio cabinet and I don't use it.
