Saturday Thoughts...Old Habits Die Hard

Old habits die hard! Recently I felt not well (not really sick, Sis) and thought about going back to bed. Well, I just couldn’t do it!
I have reached the time in my life where I only need to worry and care for myself and just need to convince myself of that! How are all of you doing with that?
You see in our family growing up you didn’t give in to just not feeling well. At least not till all of your chores were done. I still need to have my house clean and things in order. What if someone came over and saw the house dirty!
Isn’t that a silly thing. Here I am, no one to answer to or take care of any more and I still feel guilty laying down in the morning. Somehow naps in the afternoon don’t count!
It’s the giving up in the middle of a morning and not getting up or going back to bed for just not feeling well that is the problem.
Living alone isn’t all good or bad but I think I need to get a different mind set for guilt or at least realize that no-one is going to criticize it.

  1. As we get older we need to take care of ourselves, whether or not we have others to take care. It's time now for you to take care of you, things will get done as they always have. Rest and Relax.

    1. True and I did better when I had someone to take care of as then I needed to be well.

  2. I couldn't agree with you more, Myrna! Old habits do die hard. When you were raised with a strong work ethic and have held on to it for all your life, making a change (even if it would be better for your life and make you a happier person!) is hard. Really hard. But studies have shown that taking time to rest (in whatever form works for you) is so very important to have a contented, balanced life. Let me know as soon as you figure out how to change those old habits and be good with it, and I'll follow your example! Thanks for this post.

  3. Miss Read talks about not being caught in a mess or unprepared. A blogger who doesn't blog anymore talked about being visitor ready early on in the morning ie breakfast washed up, kitchen clean, bathroom clean and living room tidy. All this has stuck with me. So once I am visitor ready (usually about 9.30 am) I have no qualms whatsoever about having a rest!

    1. The Miss Read from the Miss Read books? I read all of them. My problem seems to be that I can always think of something I haven't done, yet.
