Taintor Lumber Company building in Taintor, Iowa
The company moved to a larger town, New Sharon, Iowa, but this building still stands. The village was platted in 1882, and is now considered just a "populated place".

ReplyDeletePretty building. The front entrance seems to be in an addition. Where do you suppose it was originally? I like the octagon window and the roof line.
ReplyDeleteThis is a view of the end of the building. The main entrance was on the left side of the building under the small porch roof.
DeleteMy first glance at this image, the first thing that came to my mind was that the structure looks like a church building in the Southwest! Wonder why a lumber company would use the particular design they did?
ReplyDeleteThis area is of mostly Dutch heritage...in fact, the Dutch company Lely is building a new high-tech milking machine manufacturing facility in nearby Pella.
DeleteI have wondered if the Vermeer company is Dutch, like the painter. Is that a little turret on this building that we can see behind the top of the roof?
ReplyDeleteYes, Vermeer is owned by a family with Dutch heritage. In 1847 800 Dutch immigrants settled the area that became Pella, Iowa. My great grandmother immigrated from Holland.
ReplyDeletePella Corporation was also founded there and has a large window manufacturing facility there as well. Yes, that is a turret on the roof, probably for ventilation.
