Better Homes and Gardens Our Best Recipes

Better Homes and Gardens Our Best Recipes is a fairly large, hardcover book published in 2003.  The editors say that they combed through 50 years of recipes to find excellent ones that would still appeal to today’s cooks.  We found the pages for Yesterday and Today interesting, where they compare their older recipe with a new version…for instance, their yesterday’s biscuit from the 60’s are classic…the today’s version simply cuts the dough in squares and uses white cheddar and coarsely ground pepper.
The book is a good general cookbook, even including some jams, sauces, relishes and marinades, with beautiful photos and good hints.  Interestingly, after I bought this book used, Myrna received an advertising flyer for the same book for 3 times what I paid!  It’s a very nice book, so I’m not sure how I got lucky, except I find that cookbooks are often hopeful gifts to those who have no desire to cook and they get passed on quickly.  I expect that’s why mine is in pristine condition.
We tried a handful of recipes from this book, but it’s so large and diverse we may have to revisit it again as we barely skimmed the surface.
