Taste of Home Simple and Delicious recipe for Speedy Sausage Squares lists it as a breakfast recipe. However, I made it on a Saturday night for a light supper.
Both Bettie and Lyle thought it was good. The consensus was that it could be altered to fit your taste. Bacon instead of sausage, change of cheese (I used a mixture of Mozzarella and parmesan Romano.) I thought it was a little to much bread. Maybe a larger pan next time. A good enough recipe that I will make it again and do some changing to suit it to our tastes.
Nothing wrong with the way it came out though, most of it is gone. Just that it would be fun to try different versions of the recipe.
Speedy Sausage Squares
Prep: 15 minutes Bake: 30 minutes
1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
1 pound bulk pork sausage
¼ cup chopped onion
6 eggs lightly beaten
¾ cup milk
2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese
Unroll crescent dough into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan; seal seams and perforations. Bake at 375° for six minutes or until golden brown (mine took 8 minutes).
Meanwhile, in a skillet, cook sausage and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. In a bowl, combine eggs, milk, green pepper, oregano, pepper and garlic salt. Pour over crust, sprinkle with sausage and onion. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese and bake just enough to melt cheese about 4 minutes.
Never thought of this but it looks and sounds great! Thanks.
