  1. That looks just like the "Corner Tap" in Greeley Iowa... I don't know what name it goes by now but it was the place to eat, drink, play pool or Euchre and dance. All ages at all times of the day! Thanks for bringing back some memories. Population of Greeley was about 300 when I spent time there!

  2. I never think of Iowa as having coal towns.

Much of southeastern Iowa is covered with old coal mines and many of the communities are old coal towns; there are many more that are gone now except for a few houses and remains of coal mine tailings from open-pit mining. There are remains of old deep mining too. Mining continued into the seventies in some counties.
