The Monroe County courthouse in Albia, Iowa
Built in 1903, in the center of the town square.
It is built in the Romanesque Revival style.
Most of the downtown business district and square in Albia is registered with the National Register of Historic Places, including 92 properties.
Thank heavens beautiful structures like that have withstood the test of time . . . and some modern-minded morons haven't torn them down!

DeleteAs a tourist from Nebraska told me the other day...towns here with squares are old and established.
There are 100 counties in Iowa...with an amazing variety of architectural styles in courthouses.
