Sunday in Iowa

The Wagamon Mill
on the North Skunk River in Lynnville, Iowa
The mill was built in 1848 and milled "Red Bird" and "White Lion" flour and "Wheat Heart" Cereal.  In 1925, Fred Wagaman altered his operations, and pursued new endeavors of producing animal feed, meal and electric power from the "Old Mill" on the North Skunk.  The mill was in operation in some form for more than 100 years and is now a museum.

  1. A wonderful example of "simpler times." Perhaps people had to work harder in some ways, but I think it truly was a better life all the way around for families and the children they raised. Not so for everyone, I realize, but for the masses of population things aren't so great these days. So many don't know what hard, satisfying work and self-responsibility are nor do they know what family life should be like. (Pushing soap box back under bed now.) ;o) Lovely picture.

    1. Maybe we need to pull out our soap boxes more often in these times.
