Do You Remember?

How many of you remember fondly “The Tupperware parties”? I understand they are still being held sometimes, but not like when I was a young housewife.
We lived 9 miles from town and our small group of neighbors and friends held Tupperware parties as a way to gather, spend some time together, have fun and earn some prizes for the Hostess and nice storage ware for the guests to buy.
Tupperware was invented by Earl Silas Tupper in 1946 using leftover synthetic material (courtesy of Du Pont). Originally sold in stores, the party concept was the idea of a single southern Florida mother who was selling it at parties. Bonnie Wise was made vice president of the company and the Tupperware Parties were born.
By 1951, the Tupperware Home Demonstration system was working so well that all Tupperware products were taken off store shelves and sold at parties.
Maybe you still have some of your pieces or some of your Mother’s pieces left as I do. They were such good quality that I still use my measuring cups and spoons in preference to the many other sets I own, and one of the bowls is the only bowl I use for pasta salads. Great Stuff!
During the holiday bazaar season, there was a Tupperware dealer at our local mall this year!

  1. Ha, ha, I just bought a Modular Mate piece with light pink lid at the thrift store yesterday for 50¢! Was tickled to find it:@)

    1. That was a great buy! I never owned any of the pink myself though I think you can tell our age by the color of our Tupperware collections.

  2. The Tupperware parties were popular when we were first married (in the '60s) but I don't recall going to more than possibly one or two. My mother, on the other hand, went to a lot of them and, I think, owned nearly every piece available! I still use the light green colander I got as a wedding gift. That makes it 55 years old this summer! How's that for a product made to last?!

    1. My measuring cups and spoons are a couple of years older than that. Sure wish they made products to last like that nowadays.
I had the light green colander at one point, think I gave it away.

  3. When I got married nearly 30 years ago, my grandmother gave me a housekeeping basket which included lots of things, including a Tupperware measuring spoon set that I still use nearly everyday. She loved to go to yard sales so I figure that is where she got them so they were probably used before me. They are still very nice to use!

    1. How nice that you still have and use something from your Grandmother. I use mine more than any other sert I have and find that I am sure of the measurement when I do so. Keep yours safe.
