We have come to the end of our excellent blog adventure...
after almost 10 years of sharing the fun and challenges of more than 3000 posts, more than 2 1/2 million pageviews, preparing literally hundreds of recipes, new and old, reading lots of cookbooks and trying not to buy all of them, trying the patience of our families (by taking pictures of their meals before they could eat, among other things), and becoming even closer as sisters.
We plan to relax and read other people's blogs, answer questions on the blog, still try recipes, but not so many (I have promised my husband), and continue to enjoy coffee times together and the kind of friendship that you only have with someone who shares so many of your memories.
We do plan to leave the blog in place and continue to answer questions and comments.
Thanks for YOUR friendship, comments and sharing.
Myrna and Sue
Goodbye and good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you ladies, for sharing with all of us all these years. Bless you both.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed your blog for quite awhile, and am sorry to see you go! May God bless you in 2019 and in your future endeavors!
ReplyDeleteBummer. I wanted to pop in to say thank you for the work you have put into your blog. I've made several recipes and do appreciate your notes and suggestions about canning. I hope you'll leave the blog up for those of us that have linked back to recipes.
ReplyDeleteTake care, I wish you both all the best in 2019:@)
Lynn
Dear Myrna and Sue - I have often marveled knowing the time and effort you two lovely ladies have put into creating and maintaining your down-to-earth, always informative, interesting blog posts. To say you will be missed is an understatement but I do totally understand why you've come to this juncture. As they say, nothing stays the same forever and all good things must come to an end. What you have done is definitely a good thing and I will miss you very, very much. What a bright spot you have been!
ReplyDeleteDear Myrna and Sue, You have enhanced my life with your blog. I am grateful to you for all your hard work in sharing your life, recipes and wisdom with all of us. I am so sad to see you go but please know that you've made a difference for me. Many blessings on you and yours.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Jeanne
Thank you for your blog. I have enjoyed your voice. Made your panko potato cakes yesterday, and they were delish! Never thought of coating them in panko, for the extra crunch. Wishing you all the best!
ReplyDeleteI’m so sad to read this...I looked forward to your blog every day. Thank you for all your kitchen knowledge and great recipes. And thank you for sharing your childhood memories of simpler times. I hope this site will still be available for recipe links.....and reminiscing. Best wishes to you both!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for the two of you! I'm sure you'll enjoy your blog "retirement." :^)
ReplyDeleteBut how sad for the rest of us who have profited so enormously from your knowledge! I REALLY hope you'll leave the blog up--there's so many entries I haven't read and recipes I haven't tried. Your Honey Oatmeal bread has become my family's hands-down favorite, and I will always think fondly of you two and this blog every time I make it!
I'm sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed reading your blog even when I didn't leave a comment at times. Please don't close down your blog, leave it up so people like me can search for your recipes. You can shut your comments off if you need to. If you do close it, blogger will release your url for another and most of the time they are either spam or porn.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the peace and the coffee and the chats. I shall miss your blog more than I can say. Especially the photos of a different era, we share that era together although I live in the UK. God bless you all and thank you. Love Andie xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you both so much for everything. I only found your blog about six months ago, and have enjoyed diving into the old posts and yummy recipes, not to mention helpful suggestions. I have bought several cookbooks after you featured them, and am enjoying them immensely. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
ReplyDeleteOh no! The selfish side of me is sad to see you stop, we've tried so many of your recipes and have saved so many more for future use. The practical side of me though, as someone who also has a blog that I try to update every day, I know how much work it can be and you deserve to take time and enjoy your lives. I do hope, as others have said, you'll leave the blog up so others can enjoy through the years. And pop up from time to time and say hello!! Much luv to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI will miss you so much, but hope you enjoy the peace and quiet of retirement, as I do. Sunday in Iowa always made me smile, and I came here today to see it and saw this instead, I felt sad, but happy for you! Thanks for the many years of recipes, tips and reminiscing. God bless you both.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your work and sharing. And thanks especially for leaving the content up and available. I'm still working my way through the recipes!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time, but I will say I will miss you.
ReplyDeleteWill miss you! Thank you for all these years of information, recipes, beautiful Iowa pics, and kitchen memories. Please pop in from time to time so we can be sure you're OK!
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed your blog and wish you the best! Thanks for all the great tips and recipes!
ReplyDeleteI recently found you blog. I'm sorry to see you stop posting, but am happy you can sit back and enjoy other blogs. I know that blogging takes time. I read the part about taking photos before eating to my husband. *smile* I knew he would get a kick out of it. Thank you for leaving the blog up. I will start at the beginning and work my way thourgh.
ReplyDeleteOhhh.... I'm sure we who don't blog have very little idea how much work it is. I understand your comment about the kind of friendship that exists with someone who shares your memories. I hope that you have many opportunities for those kinds of connections. I have appreciated and enjoyed your recipes, your knowledge, your photos, your memories and your stories. I will miss it all. But, I am happy for you. Thank you and best wishes!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for years of happy reading. I love your blog and your recipes and your wisdom. I am on only a few years younger than you are and I understand that you want more time with your "real" family and friends but please know how much we will miss you.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I'm saddened to hear of this, as I have been following for several years now. Your blog was a part of my ritual, as I would get notified of every new posting. Thanks for all that you did for all of us here. May your future be blessed!!
ReplyDeleteJon
I will miss your blog.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed your blog for some time and will miss it. You ladies have done a wonderful job of it. Thank you for all your efforts over the years, sharing some wonderful recipes and memories, and for teaching me some things along the way.
ReplyDeleteOh, my, I am sure sad but do understand. And thank you for leaving your blog up - so many of us refer back to your recipes. Thanks to you, I just got my Breville Smart Oven Air over Christmas. Can't wait to try it out! Hugs to you from Oregon!
ReplyDeleteLet me add my heartfelt thanks to your most enjoyable blog these many years. Such sweet memories and yummy recipes!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed New Year, Myrna and Sue.
Susan
Thank you so much for creating this blog - so important to record memories and impressions while they are still clear, and your posts have prompted me to think about my own childhood memories. I look forward to reading more of the past entries and wish you all the very best for the future. Best wishes from NZ.

I will miss you emails so much, but I understand! I appreciate all the work you have done... I have enjoyed your blog as a little respite from my daily routine. Thank you for being you and sharing your gifts! God bless you in your retirement!
ReplyDeleteI've saved so many of your blog posts... I've tried so many of your recipes... I've scouted out a few of the cookbooks you recommend and enthusiastically agreed with you when you would feature cookbooks I love/have in my own collection. I've learned so many things about various kitchen tools and appliances. I thank you for all the time and passion you two put into -- what really has been -- your ministry to homemakers around the country. I've loved your blog a long time and sorry not to have your posts to look forward to but I send you love and gratitude and warm wishes for your retirement phase. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteWish you’d stay and maybe post a couple of times a month...sad...So many good bloggers have disappeared.
ReplyDeleteWishing you much happiness and rest!

Your blog will be missed by me. I grew up in southeast Iowa and have enjoyed the memories you brought to mind and the tips and recipes. I will especially miss the "Sundays in Iowa" posts . God bless you!
ReplyDeleteWell, I've come along at the end, alas, but I want to thank you for leaving your posts up. There is so much for me to look at here. Enjoy your future endeavors!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog, I have enjoyed it. Take care you two.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the time and effort you've both put into your delightful blog. Thank you also for saying good-bye rather than disappearing and causing me to worry about you.
ReplyDeleteI will miss you guys. I've really enjoyed your recipes and the Sunday Drive photos. Enjoy your time!!!
ReplyDeleteSad to read this, but understand the reasons why. Enjoy your "retirement" from blogging, I have enjoyed reading it over these past few years. Best Wishes from Scotland.

ReplyDeleteI just found your blog this evening and want to let you know how much I've enjoyed scrolling through. My family is originally from Van Buren county and many still live there. Your recipes remind me of family and the photos of your Sunday drives make me smile as I've seen many of those places. I wish you both all the best in your "retirement". I'll continue to visit and enjoy your archives. Thank you so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found us, always nice to have some one who has ties to Iowa. If you go forward instead of to the archives you will see we decided to keep the blog up just not posting as often. New posts on Mondays and Thursdays and most Sundays. Gives us a break and is not as much work as every day posts. We hope you find the new posts and enjoy reading us.
