Good Bye...

We have come to the end of our excellent blog adventure...
after almost 10 years of sharing the fun and challenges of more than 3000 posts, more than 2 1/2 million pageviews, preparing literally hundreds of recipes, new and old, reading lots of cookbooks and trying not to buy all of them, trying the patience of our families (by taking pictures of their meals before they could eat, among other things), and becoming even closer as sisters.

We plan to relax and read other people's blogs, answer questions on the blog,  still try recipes, but not so many (I have promised my husband), and continue to enjoy coffee times together and the kind of friendship that you only have with someone who shares so many of your memories.

We do plan to leave the blog in place and  continue to answer questions and comments.

Thanks for YOUR friendship, comments and sharing.
 Myrna and Sue

  3. Bummer. I wanted to pop in to say thank you for the work you have put into your blog. I've made several recipes and do appreciate your notes and suggestions about canning. I hope you'll leave the blog up for those of us that have linked back to recipes.
Take care, I wish you both all the best in 2019:@)

  4. Dear Myrna and Sue - I have often marveled knowing the time and effort you two lovely ladies have put into creating and maintaining your down-to-earth, always informative, interesting blog posts. To say you will be missed is an understatement but I do totally understand why you've come to this juncture. As they say, nothing stays the same forever and all good things must come to an end. What you have done is definitely a good thing and I will miss you very, very much. What a bright spot you have been!

  6. Thank you for your blog. I have enjoyed your voice. Made your panko potato cakes yesterday, and they were delish! Never thought of coating them in panko, for the extra crunch. Wishing you all the best!

  7. I’m so sad to read this...I looked forward to your blog every day. Thank you for all your kitchen knowledge and great recipes. And thank you for sharing your childhood memories of simpler times. I hope this site will still be available for recipe links.....and reminiscing. Best wishes to you both!

  8. How wonderful for the two of you! I'm sure you'll enjoy your blog "retirement." :^)
But how sad for the rest of us who have profited so enormously from your knowledge! I REALLY hope you'll leave the blog up--there's so many entries I haven't read and recipes I haven't tried. Your Honey Oatmeal bread has become my family's hands-down favorite, and I will always think fondly of you two and this blog every time I make it!

  9. I'm sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed reading your blog even when I didn't leave a comment at times. Please don't close down your blog, leave it up so people like me can search for your recipes. You can shut your comments off if you need to. If you do close it, blogger will release your url for another and most of the time they are either spam or porn.

  11. Thank you both so much for everything. I only found your blog about six months ago, and have enjoyed diving into the old posts and yummy recipes, not to mention helpful suggestions. I have bought several cookbooks after you featured them, and am enjoying them immensely. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

  12. Oh no! The selfish side of me is sad to see you stop, we've tried so many of your recipes and have saved so many more for future use. The practical side of me though, as someone who also has a blog that I try to update every day, I know how much work it can be and you deserve to take time and enjoy your lives. I do hope, as others have said, you'll leave the blog up so others can enjoy through the years. And pop up from time to time and say hello!! Much luv to you and your family!

  13. I will miss you so much, but hope you enjoy the peace and quiet of retirement, as I do. Sunday in Iowa always made me smile, and I came here today to see it and saw this instead, I felt sad, but happy for you! Thanks for the many years of recipes, tips and reminiscing. God bless you both.

  19. Ohhh.... I'm sure we who don't blog have very little idea how much work it is. I understand your comment about the kind of friendship that exists with someone who shares your memories. I hope that you have many opportunities for those kinds of connections. I have appreciated and enjoyed your recipes, your knowledge, your photos, your memories and your stories. I will miss it all. But, I am happy for you. Thank you and best wishes!

  21. I must admit I'm saddened to hear of this, as I have been following for several years now. Your blog was a part of my ritual, as I would get notified of every new posting. Thanks for all that you did for all of us here. May your future be blessed!!

  27. I've saved so many of your blog posts... I've tried so many of your recipes... I've scouted out a few of the cookbooks you recommend and enthusiastically agreed with you when you would feature cookbooks I love/have in my own collection. I've learned so many things about various kitchen tools and appliances. I thank you for all the time and passion you two put into -- what really has been -- your ministry to homemakers around the country. I've loved your blog a long time and sorry not to have your posts to look forward to but I send you love and gratitude and warm wishes for your retirement phase. Thanks again!

  36. I just found your blog this evening and want to let you know how much I've enjoyed scrolling through. My family is originally from Van Buren county and many still live there. Your recipes remind me of family and the photos of your Sunday drives make me smile as I've seen many of those places. I wish you both all the best in your "retirement". I'll continue to visit and enjoy your archives. Thank you so much for sharing!!

    1. Glad you found us, always nice to have some one who has ties to Iowa. If you go forward instead of to the archives you will see we decided to keep the blog up just not posting as often. New posts on Mondays and Thursdays and most Sundays. Gives us a break and is not as much work as every day posts. We hope you find the new posts and enjoy reading us.
