That was my first thought as well; it looking like the front of a courthouse. A bit unusual not seeing s cross on the outside of the church anywhere. The white trim really set the brink walls off nicely.
I did crop off the church sign that was to the right of the building...it is unusual, probably built in the 1920's; especially for a town this small. What Cheer is where my husband's mother's family lived, as well as his parents after they retired...an old coal-mining town, that also had a pottery that made clay sewer tile at one time.
I was thinking, that maybe at o ne time the building was used for something else and then later down the road the Christian Church bought the building and have been using it as their house of worship to this day. Those really aren't church windows that you would normally see plus it also looks like there used to be a plaque of some sort in that brick space to the left of them white pillars.
It looks like a former school building to me...sadly, I no longer know anyone in What Cheer who would know, as our older relatives have now passed on and my husband doesn't know either. The town also has a very nice, well-kept-up Opera House, that is still used as a venue for music shows, etc.

The front reminds me of a court house.
