Sunday in Iowa...

A perfect garden, just like Grandma's
With rows of flowers in front of neat rows of vegetables

  1. Oh, the memories. Reminds me of my mother's garden back in the day. She would plant her four O'Clocks at each end of her garden and rows & rows of vegetables.

    1. I had forgotten about four o'clocks. Our Dad always had them in his garden also. And yes, the canning!! Always when it was too hot to breathe!
Strawberries and green beans were two things we always canned a lot of.

    3. Most of them went for jam for jelly but when we had surplus we made strawberry sauce and canned it. As I remember it was not real good and then we started freezing them instead.

  3. What a slice of heaven! My dad was the gardener in the family and his plots often looked like this...in rocky sandy CT soil that he amended with lots of leaves ...always available in the fall.I remember my mom & sister canning tomatoes too. 😍🍅🌻🌼🌷🌽🥕
